What Wakemark is

Generative-media providers — fal, Replicate, Runware, Black Forest Labs and the rest — are built to serve inference, not to be depended on. Outputs expire, models retire, and a 429 arrives exactly when you launch. Wakemark is the layer above them:

• One API, many providers. Bring your own provider keys, route by capability, and fail over across companies — not just within a single vendor's catalog.
• Byte-exact custody. Every output is streamed into storage and verified against its SHA-256 hash — never transcoded, never “optimized” — so your masters outlive the provider URL that expires in hours.
• A proof trail on every job. An append-only ledger records provider, model, parameters, timestamps and cost; C2PA Content Credentials are preserved and stamped; a lineage graph ties each asset back to what made it. You can check any of it yourself at /verify.

What Wakemark is not

Being honest about scope is the whole point. The product's core principle is that no tool should claim more than it can back — so here's what Wakemark deliberately is not:

• Not a model marketplace. Wakemark doesn't compete on how many models it lists. It's the neutral layer above providers and aggregators, not another catalog racing on model count.
• Not a compliance guarantee. Wakemark is designed to support EU AI Act Article 50 workflows — machine-readable marking, a verifiable ledger, durable custody — but no tool can make you compliant, and you should be suspicious of any that claims to. The obligations sit with your organization; Wakemark gives you the evidence trail, not a promise.
• Not a company — yet. There's no team behind a logo, no “trusted by” wall, no fabricated scale. It's one engineer building in public, and the copy on this site states only what has actually shipped.

Who's building it

Wakemark is built by Oğuzhan Kır, an individual (a natural person) based in Türkiye — not a company, not a collective. Under the hood it's a production-grade system: KMS-sealed key custody, tenant isolation enforced in the data layer, an event-sourced audit ledger, and real pipeline outputs on every page of this site. It just happens to be built by one person, in the open, rather than by a funded team behind a closed door.

That framing is deliberate. Wakemark isn't a weekend side project dressed up as a startup, and it isn't a fictional company with an imaginary team. It's the honest middle: one operator, doing the work, and showing the receipts.

Open source

Wakemark is source-available. The engine is licensed under the Business Source License 1.1 (BSL 1.1) — you can read it, run it, and build on it, and each version converts to Apache-2.0 on its change date. The client SDKs are Apache-2.0 from day one. The whole point of building in public is that you don't have to take any of the claims above on faith: you can read the code that makes them true.
